For the vast majority of wedding couples, video tapes are a waste of money for many reasons. Among them are they
are often fairly expensive, many are of medoicre quality at best, and perhaps most important, unless you are extremely well
disciplined the tape will likely remain nicely sealed in its original package until just before the wedding - AND THEN IT'S
TOO LATE!! We have many couples who call us just a week or so before the wedding! We are very good instructors,
BUT we are not magicians!
Dancing is a sport - and like any sport it takes some time and dedication to do it well
- in this case so that your very first appearance as man and wife makes a positive lasting impression on your family and friends!
We have been told by instructors far more experienced than we are that the only video tapes you should watch are of
yourself! Frankly this is a frightening prospect and we try to avoid it!! WHY - because we are our own worst critic
and see flaws that no one else will.
Are video tapes good for anything! Yes, if you attend a class
in a specific dance or have learned specific patterns, then a tape of those patterns can be very helpful in refreshing your
surpressed memory and in reminding you of certain pieces of the pattern that you may have forgotten. In this case however,
you are not trying to learn from the tape, but rather are using the tape to reinforce what you have already learned!!
Save your money - invest in dance lessons, private if you can - there is nothing better, but group classes through your
county recreation system, adult school classes or a private studio.
